May is the month that celebrates my identity as a person of color and also a first-generation immigrant in this country. In addition to my book tour events, I was honored to be part of the community events celebrating the #AAPIHeritageMonth. Thanks to Summer Dawn for making me part of the two events with Tommy Bahama and Lumen as an artist representing Asian Americans. The highlight of the month was the “Far East” event that took place in Hamilton Park. I was honored to share my poetic space with JC Poet Laureate Rescue Poetix, Crystal Letters, and Summer Dawn. The day was amped up in heat by the rhythmic beats of the Japanese Taiko Masala Band Group. Also thankful to walk_bye for featuring my poem “ Heritage” as part of the public art exhibit in the Hamilton Park celebrating AAPI Heritage month. The public art will be on display at the park for the next two months.
Also thankful to Dr. Kim Mcmillon for making me part of the event “Taking Back the Uterus” in response to the violation of reproductive rights freedom in the country. I was also one of the featured poets for the monthly Brownstone Poets alongside Carolyne Wright and Juan Mobili.
Notable publications of the month included Blck Fire This Time, New Jersey Bards Review 2022, Featured poet in the NLAPW, and in the anthology “ Tapestry of Women in Indian Mythology” by Hawakal Publications. Gratitude to Meenakshi Mohan and Kiriti Sengupta for making me part of this.
Other accomplishments included being shortlisted for the UK-based Erbacce Poetry Competition 2022 amongst 15, 000 entries and also being a state-level finalist for the NAMI Poetry Contest 2022.
Looking forward to a jubilant poetic June.
Happy Poetry!!
