I’m really excited to receive the news of acceptance of my few poems and an essay for the timely and powerful anthology called “Good Cop/Bad Cop” by FlowerSong Press. The anthology is expected to be published in 2021. Immensely thankful to the EIC and publisher of the press Edward Vidaurre.
Edward Vidaurre is the author of seven collections of poetry. He is the 2018-2019 City of McAllen, Texas Poet Laureate, a four-time Pushcart-nominated poet, and publisher of FlowerSong Press. His writings have appeared or are forthcoming in The New York Times, The Texas Observer, Grist, Poet Lore, The Acentos Review, Poetrybay, Voices de la Luna, as well as other journals and anthologies. Vidaurre is from Boyle Heights, California and now resides in McAllen, Texas with his wife and daughter.
In words of the EIC and publisher of the Press Edward Vidaurre
So many others for so many years. In 2010 police killed over a thousand people in the U.S. Black people are 3x more likely to be killed by police than white people. 99% of killings by police from 2013 – 2019 have not resulted in officers being charged with a crime.*The names of the murdered will not be forgotten. We call on poets, writers, and artists to submit work for an anthology that addresses the continuing problem of police violence in this country and around the world.
Our focus is on the people who are affected by this uncontrolled problem—the victims, the victims’ families, people of color, and a society that lives in fear of being shot and killed by those who are supposed to protect it.
Happy Poetry!!
