The Madras Courier is a 233-year-old news brand, launched on October 12, 1785, by Richard Johnston, who had earlier that year inspired The Daily Universal Register, the forerunner of The Times, London. A four-to-six-page weekly tabloid with the motto ‘Quicquid Agunt Homines’, which means ‘Whatever men do’.
The Madras Courier won the Best Digital News Start-up Award at the South Asian Digital Media Awards 2018, beating The Hindu Briefcase. Instituted by the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN INFRA) in association with Google, the award recognizes best practices and innovation in digital publishing worldwide.
