July has mostly been the month of taking it slow and spending time with my family. The notable events include the Book launch of the “Black Fire this Time” at the Hoboken Library along with the poetry readings alongside literary stalwarts like Quincy Troupe, Margaret Troupe, Raymond Nat Turner, and Keisha Gaye Anderson. It was my first time co-organizing an event with the library. The event also garnered some attention in the press and was covered by Jersey Journal. Notable publications include the publication of the annual “Brownstone Poets Anthology 2022”. In addition to having a poem published in the anthology, I also had the privilege of being the Associate editor. An honor to share the editorial space with Carrie Magnuss Radna and Karen Neuberg and also the EIC Patricia Carragon.
Another highlight of the month was the Honorable mention of my poetry collection at the New York Book Festival 2022. In the series of guest workshops with universities across the US, I also did a workshop with the California-based Community college, Mt San Antonio Community College. Thanks to Prof Aquino and Matt Sedillo for giving me the opportunity. The inclusion of Kaveh Akbar, Terrance Hayes, and Naomi Shihab Nye’s works in the LiQ Project by Stanford university was yet another highlight.
The month ended with yet another good news of being selected as one of the juries for the coveted Spoken Words Competition 2022 by NY based The Artist Forum. Honored to share the jury space with my dear friend David Dephy, Amos White, and Baron Wright. I also received the official seal of “Archived on the Moon ” for the LunarCodex Project curated by Samuel Peralta. The seal is received for the “ The Medusa Project” anthology that has been selected as a digital payload to be sent to the moon in the year 2023 in collaboration with NASA/SpaceX.
Looking forward to an inspiring and poetic August!!
