If we never – In response to the Tuesday Writing prompt at GoDogGO cafe

Today’s prompt: Write a poem using the phrase “if we never”

“If we never start we never end
if we never starve we never crave
if we never hurt we never feel pain
if we never get wounded we never heal again”
–Megha Sood

If we never witness the sun setting on the horizon,
the time never moves, it just floats and stays stale

If we never let the love walk in our lives,
we will never witness how the beauty molds in our lives in every small way

If we never let our hearts weep for others,
we will never understand the meaning of pain

If we never split the lovers apart,
love will keep seeping through their warm embrace

If we never taste our tears we will never know the salt
carried in the warm waters of the mighty ocean as they reign

If we never fall and get skinned we will never
learn the lesson which the game entails

Life is a succession of endless possibilities
a plethora of  choices,
an endless fecundity,
a branched path to follow
numerous milestones to achieve

If we never take our first step
we will never be a survivor again.

–Megha Sood

  1. This is such an impactful, beautifully woven piece with raw and candid descriptions. Experience is what shapes us as people, and we need them in order to understand and cherish what we do have. The meaning is very powerful here. Great poem!
