Reluctant follower

A mighty pain to love it is,
And ’tis a pain that pain to miss;
But of all pains, the greatest pain
It is to love, but love in vain. ~ Abraham Cowley

Who wants to go down that spiraling path again

twirling in the darkness

and losing the footing to the unknown

you can’t seem to discern anything in the dark

clutching on to the memories

fading in the deep oblivion

and  fading out too soon

too fast

this swirling vortex is devouring me slowly and

I’m losing myself in bits and pieces

if only I can get a foothold

a hand to hold

to stop this free fall

breaking my vapid soul in pieces

the deep seeded fear of the pulverized dreams

and fear of losing you

has caused me to go through this downtrodden path again

this debilitating fear throbbing in my veins

and taking over my self

this gush of ecstasy flowing in my veins and

spreading all over me and

like a poison ivy

makes me lose my existence to thin air

I have been this path before

and would want the hearts of stone to ignore

pulled apart at seams

my mind gives up on me

and mercilessly say

Heart, I can’t follow you anymore

no matter how much you dare.

      1. I am certainly not a reluctant follower of yours …. dear and wonderful ma’am! It seems my only reluctance are blood shot eyes at the end of a work day from peering at my work screen. Makes WP moments too few and far between indeed.
Hope you are grand … beautiful lady!!! 😍
