Pride ( Hubris)

This seventh and final poem is a part of the anthology of poems based on the Seven deadly sins. Go read the previous ones, if you haven’t yet.

Pride(hubris) – excessive view of one’s self without regard to others.

“Who knows himself a braggart, let him fear this, for it will come to pass that every braggart shall be found an ass.”
― William Shakespeare, The Complete Works

Chest thumping your way
to the eternal damnation
living in the land of giants
and self-loathing with your
mortal existence
you are swelled with pride
bloated with the mortal sin
and blinded by the light
of your empty possessions
Your urges and desires
whims and fancies
you are bloated with superiority
looking down at everyone
with the absence of humility
when your weak head filled
with the strongest bias rules
pride, the eternal sin
the never-failing vice of fools
