Inspiration

This poem is based on the micro poetry of the same name.Read it here

“Poetry is just the evidence of life. If your life is burning well, poetry is just the ash.”  —Leonard Cohen

They ask what my inspiration is
I say,
a falling leaf
a withered rose
a shape in the clouds
a long-lost song on the radio
or a sunset
I long to see
They ask what drives my magical quill
I say,
A lover’s secret desire
a mind brimming with emotions
or sometimes my heart
set on fire
They asked who is your muse
I say,
a giggling baby
a dancing diva or
an enchantress
or sometimes the
daily grind of my mundane life
makes me put my poetry into
a beautiful use
They ask what keeps you going
I say,
my poetry is my religion
and I worship no one
but
my words
which keeps the elixir
of life within my veins
flowing.

  1. You’ve written what any true poet would write if asked the same questions. Inspiration is all around us and the Muse comes in many forms. From nature to people and our interactions with them, these cause us to pause, reflect and respond the only way we know how – through our words. And you, dear poet, have done it here perfectly 🙂

      1. You are welcome and it’s my pleasure to respond to such beautifully accurate words. I will definitely read the anthology you have linked. I’ve written a lot about the poetry process and will post them as I dig them out 🙂 In the meantime, happy writing and I hope you are enjoying the weekend 🙂
