A living nightmare

This poem is second in the anthology of the poems based on the Social evils.

Sex trafficking is human trafficking for the purpose of sexual exploitation, including sexual slavery. Sex trafficking is a form of modern-day slavery in which individuals perform commercial sex through the use of force, fraud, or coercion.Minors under the age of 18 engaging in commercial sex are considered to be victims of Child Sex Trafficking.

The underlying causes of commercial sexual exploitation of children include poverty, gender discrimination, war, organized crime, globalization, greed, traditions and beliefs, family dysfunction, and the drug trade.

Sex trafficking is an industry making an estimated $99 billion a year.

  • At least 20.9 million adults and children are bought and sold worldwide into commercial sexual servitude, forced labor, and bonded labor.
  • About 2 million children are exploited every year in the global commercial sex trade.

She was snatched from the
warm embrace of her mother
joy rides from her father
from her cradle of innocence
naked
she stands now
stripped of her emotions

Baring her
broken and shattered soul
at every lecherous eye
and fornicated look
she is a grown up
woman
too early too soon

Her pretty little dolls have
scratches on her face
and stained  with the
memories of the
dark moon

Her pure soul
is still denying  the
blisters on her body
she still can’t believe her ears
when people call her whore

Licking her wounds every day
and dolled up for the night
she is got pretty good
at hiding her sores

The dream of that
fairytale prince and
the first time
rapturous kiss
has been shattered
so many time
more

She still has the faint memories
of the sun
drenching her face
jumps in the puddle
to scare away those frogs

But no matter how much she
screams and screeches
her reality is slowly
turning into the
a living nightmare
she abhors.

  1. A few years ago I did some reading around this, it was heartbreaking, this is a horrible reality for too many, glad you have refreshed our awreness for the sake of those trapped.

      1. Absolutely. There’s anecdotal comment here that women indentured through debt to pimps are further pimped out to nail bars and shops once they are too old or ravaged by their labour, and as you might predict, for a pittance.

      2. Well there’s a theory over here that some of them are former sex workers. I’m sure there’s more ugliness out there, but I keep working on the process of awareness and small victories locally. Never be afraid of the truth, don’t let it crush you is my motto, just use it for the common good. Keep writing.

  2. I love that you’re bringing awareness to this. We can get so tied up in the little world around us that sometimes we forget or lose sight of things happening beyond what we see very day. I’m going to reblog this. Thanks for your post!

  3. This was painful but reality is reality.
There’s a need to change the very mindset of people. The way you described a young girl snatched from her family and forced was incredible. I must appreciate you for your work Megha.
Waiting for the next poem in this series.

  4. I follow a lady who operates a home that rescues women from human trafficking. This poem really describes these people precisely. Before I read the bottom paragraph, I was thinking….child sexual abuse….but I didn’t want to read too much into it…I figured that would just be my interpretation. Anyway, thanks for your sensitivity to so many different issues.
