Monsters

“A Native American elder once described his own inner struggles in this manner: Inside of me there are two dogs. One of the dogs is mean and evil. The other dog is good. The mean dog fights the good dog all the time. When asked which dog wins, he reflected for a moment and replied, The one I feed the most.”
― George Bernard Shaw

My monsters
they never leave me
they are always with me
like a second soul
shifting in its place
to make some space
for its own
It’s a constant struggle
a tug
push and pull
this power struggle
the pain
I bear alone
Alone in this fight
dying
with their monstrosity
it has taken over
my  pitiful existence
has swallowed me whole
They say you become the one
you feed more
light or the devil
but I lost my way
in this topsy-turvy words
to know for sure,
dazed and confused
which One
 I truly own.
