Dreams

Dreams come from the past, not from the future. Dreams shouldn’t control you-you should control them.

-Haruki Murakami-

What kind of dreams do you get at night? Are they the cozy, romantic full of passion. Which makes you dreamy-eyed and gives you the warm and cozy feeling of sleeping in your comfortable bed or they are like the nightmares where you wish you hadn’t slept that day. The one which shakes and rattles you to the core and keep you awake the whole night.

As Sigmund Freud said, “Dreams are the language of your subconscious “.

Something your brain processes and flashes in front of you when you other senses are taking refuge. When you are not distracted by them and you kept suppressing them for the day till it flashes in front of you like a dream.

Dreams have been very intriguing to the humankind. People have been analyzing and over analyzing the dreams just to understand the whole truth behind them. There has been therapists, psychoanalysts and another expert in the area. It’s one of the most researched topics in the universities.

They sometimes even resort to regression therapy to do the root cause analysis of a person’s dream when they are unable to find the direct connection between their present situation and the dreams they are having.

I think dreams are the closest you feel, the most real you feel without having that experienced in your real life. The other dimension your self-travels to, when you dream. That’s why some of the dreams are so vivid cause they are impossible to happen in real life.

In some traditions, people use dreams as a guide, pointer, which can learn about the danger lurking in the near future. whereas some people find dreams as a respite from the ugly reality they are living in. They find it soothing and calm.

Stress and emotions manifest themselves in various ways in your dreams and nobody has the perfect reasoning behind it.

One of the scientific explanation of the dreams is the neurons flashing in the brain which makes random images on your retina, hence making dreams.Dreams are merely the brain firing signals as it organizes the previous day’s thoughts and experiences. As per a scientific study, dreams are most abundant during the REM stage ( Rapid Eye Movement) of the sleep cycle. This is the deepest stage of the sleep cycle when the brain is continuously processing the signals.

So nobody has the perfect reasoning behind your dreams. You’re sole creator and sole interpreter of your dreams. So don’t let them control you, you control them.

So dream wisely, my friend.

I wrote a poem about “Dreams” a few months back. Would love to know your thoughts on this.
